Have you ever wanted to be able to read at high speed with good comprehension? This course will improve your own reading performance by enabling you to save time by reading faster, reading more selectively, understanding key points more clearly and only reading once to remember the content.

You will have the knowledge, skills and motivation to double your effective reading rate. (The average retained skill improvement as measured at University of WA (UWA) is a 120% increase in reading speed with improved comprehension).

Topics covered will include how to:

understand the 11 stages of the reading process
control the most limiting reading faults
- subvocalisation ("saying" the words in your head)
- regression (continually skipping back and re-reading)
- excessive fixations (focussing too frequently)
improve general concentration
train peripheral vision (to reduce eye fatigue)
'chunk' read in groups of words or phrases
use punctuation to identify intended meaning
use key words to quickly identify real meaning
separate essential from background material
utilise practical techniques while you read to boost comprehension and memory
use a range of reading strategies (skimming, scanning, and paragraph reading)
master true speed reading and how and when to apply it

Duration: This course is available in two 6 hour or three 4 hour formats.
